A one-time ordinary raccoon pup from South Dakota, captured by the mad geneticist Cousin Klaw. As he did with several other animals, Klaw combined genetic engineering and nanotechnology to make the animal into a sentient humanoid. That is to say: human-like in size, intelligence, and proportions, to a degree, but still raccoon-like in other regards. Not having an interest in raising the subject to adulthood, however, Klaw arranged for the subject, still essentially a toddler, to be found by the Cameron family.
Despite not being the only such creation that Klaw sent out into world and despite growing up in the unusual hidden archipelago of Magusia (a place where magical artifacts, dragons, and other peculiarities were common), Adam found himself an outsider in his youth and was often bullied. It was around the time he started college, he found confidence in who and what he was and in a big way. He became a popular personality about campus and even in Magusia as a whole, sometimes to the chagrin of his socially awkward roommate Joseph Prairiewolf.
After college, Adam was contacted by one of his few former childhood friends, Kitt Fletcher, who had moved away to New York City when Adam was a teenager. Kitt was moving back to Magusia and suggested the idea of a collaborative treasure hunting company, a business both of their fathers had made their lives' work. The two often worked on their plans at a coffee shop. A waitress there, Vanessa Fennick, overhead their discussion and talked to them about it on their visits, she quickly became friends with the unusual customers. One day, she asked to join their endeavors and they accepted.
So it was, they traveled Magusia and sometimes beyond. Their chasing treasure and legends ended up with them caught up in trouble with dangerous people on several occasions, so the whole thing also evolved into crimefighting, as well. To cover for the discretion that required and explain Adam's appearance while outside Magusia, they formed a rock band named Pest Control (Adam as lead singer and guitar) - an ambition from Adam and Kitt's youth, anyway - Adam's appearance being explained away to non-Magusians as disguised-based performance shtick, emphasizing his nickname "Damage" as a stage persona.
The three had an exciting and successful few years. Adam discovered an old photo of Vanessa's that had been signed "To Lil". He learned that it was short for Lilian, her middle name, and that some of her friends had used to call her that. What she and Kitt did not know is Adam had went to a boardwalk fortuneteller on a dare once, who had told him he would one day find someone to love and that the vision of that love had been accompanied by three letters "Lil". He had already felt closeness to her, the new discovery seemed like fate. So, inspired by a pamphlet he had received in the mail, he arranged a birthday trip for the three, where he planned to tell her his feelings. Those plans blew up and, after an eventful and unfortunate night, Adam ended up in the hospital and Kitt & Vanessa ended up kissing (not knowing Adam had seen). Damage told the two, after the incident, he needed to go his own way. Kitt and Vanessa moved to Magusia's largest city, Port Tempest, and Kitt got a job at a small newspaper as a columnist. Damage continued doing work similar to what he had done alongside Kitt and Vanessa until he heard of his college roommate owning a private detective business under the name Joey Coyote. Adam approached Joey and suggested he join as a partner. With Damage on board, Joey's casework became more dangerous and outlandish but it also attracted the attention of GARMA who successfully employed the two for some of their more sensitive and unusual cases. And that is what Damage & Coyote did until they were approached by one of GARMA's newest and brightest, Tobias Drake, who had an unusual request - the resurrection of the former Worldwide Internal Lycanthrope Division of GARMA, WILD. Tobias wanted Damage to be a founding member.
Adam stands five foot six, at ear tips. He has brown eyes and a typical brownish gray raccoon coat with black "mask", paws, and tail rings. Not one for formality, he prefers T-shirts or casual button ups and his custom-tailored jeans and hiking boots - although he also has a bomber jacket he often wears. He lives up to his nickname, often becoming a magnet for danger and doing things in an impulsive unpredictable way. It is largely an illusion, however, as he is a dedicated professional and exceptionally cunning - Adam Cameron always has a plan, even when it has to be masterfully assembled on the fly. While he has human-level intellect, he also possesses his naturally acute animal senses. Especially notable is his ambidextrous manual dexterity and tactile sense; as he is quick to remind people, he has the nimblest paws on the planet. Trained by his father, a treasure hunter and sometimes thief, Damage knows a variety of related skills from survival to lockpicking to tracking to armed and unarmed combat - though he is vehemently opposed to using firearms. To facilitate to globe-spanning and secretive nature of his and Kitt's past work, he earned a pilot's license and flew for most of their missions. Trust does not come easily to Damage but, once earned, he is fiercely loyal. While not always a particularly pleasant individual, his sense of heroic morality is unwavering.
Very proud to be a raccoon and vocally so, he is equally disdainful of humans as a species, for various reasons (but does care about those humans who are friends and family). He also loathes canines of all forms - yes, including werewolves (a feeling he believes is mutual)
Like any other raccoon, Adam loves to eat. He has a particular fondness for seafood, of course, but is a true omnivore in every sense. For drink, he prefers coffee and hard cider.
